Hello, my name is Lyungmae Choi and I am very excited to join the Department of Accountancy at CityU in July 2017. I earned my PhD in Accounting at Arizona State University in 2017, my M.S. in Management Engineering at Korea Advanced Institute of Science And Technology (KAIST) in 2008, and my B.S. in Industrial Engineering at Yonsei University in 2005. Before starting my doctoral study, I worked at Shinhan Bank in Korea for four years.

I am very impressed by the cooperative atmosphere in the Department of Accountancy and by its warm-hearted colleagues who are willing to help each other. It is a great honor to be part of such a collegial and productive group.

My general research interests are in pricing and mispricing of accounting information and M&As. In particular, I am interested in how accounting information is disseminated to and processed by capital market participants and the role of accounting information in M&A decisions.

As a teacher, I believe that while it is important to teach accounting rules, the subject is much more interesting when it is relevant to real-world problems. I therefore try to encourage students to link the topics to real-world issue.

In my downtime, I like to hike, snowboard, and make candles. When I have the opportunity, I would like to learn to play the guitar. I am very much looking forward to my time in Hong Kong.

Dr Choi celebrated her PhD graduation with her husband, Dr DuckKi Cho and her daughter, Yuna.

My name is Eunhee Kim. I am originally from South Korea where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from Korea University. I went directly to Columbia University to join Master’s programme in operations research, where I studied William Cooper’s influential work on operations research and accounting. My interest in accounting (originating from Cooper) led me to pursue a PhD in accounting at Carnegie Mellon University. I love that my journey allowed me to develop diverse interests. I believe that this diversity will be very useful in conducting accounting research with my colleagues in the Department of Accountancy.

The first picture that captures my story was taken at my graduation ceremony at Carnegie Mellon University, Tepper School of Business. I have a big smile on my face because my dissertation was nominated for the William Cooper Doctoral Dissertation Award (I am holding the plaque in the picture). My parents, who took the picture, were extremely proud, as was I.

The second picture is from an Amateur Marathon Competition in South Korea that I entered with my friends. I value exercise. In my spare time, running with my friends, walk along the river, hike in the mountains, and practice yoga. I love both outdoor and indoor activities that help me boost my energy. The energy generated from my exercise makes me even more energetic in conducting my research!

I am very excited about the new chapter of my life as an Assistant Professor of the Department of Accountancy. I am looking forward to working with my colleagues and meeting my students at CityU!
